Whitsunday Islands Australia

Whitsunday Islands Australia
Located right off the Queensland coast of Australia, the Whitsunday islands are a year-round paradise and the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. With only eight of 74 islands inhabited it is easy to either get away from it all in your own island paradise, or enjoy world-class resorts.
If you enjoy sailing you have come to the right place. There are several yacht charter companies that offer bareboat charters where the guest does all the sailing, or a crewed charter with a captain who will take care of the yacht and guests can just lay back and enjoy. Some are based at Abel Point marina on Airlie Beach, Queensland, and others at Hamilton island, in the middle of the Whitsundays on the way to the Great Barrier Reef. At any secluded island paradise you can drop anchor and enjoy a night under the stars.
Want an aerial view of the brilliant blue waters?, choose from seaplane and helicopter tours from the Whitsunday airport near Airlie Beach or Hamilton island that can also include a beach picnic, snorkeling in coral lagoons, and a glass bottom boat excursion.
If fishing is your passion head to Lake Proserpine, where there are plenty of fish waiting for bait around Peter Faust Dam. The lake is also a favorite for outdoor picnics, boating, and water skiing, just a short ride from Airlie Beach.
A hike through the lush tropical rainforest more your style? From a short to an extended multi-day hike is your choice along the Whitsunday Great Walk, which takes you on a 30 kilometer journey through the Conway Range with two campsites along the way. Start the hike from either Brandy Creek or from Airlie Beach, which offers accomodations ranging from backpacking hostels to Bed and Breakfast to plush apartments with magnificent views.
Both Hamilton Island and Whitsunday airport offer taxi and limousine transportation when arriving from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Cairns. Flying time to Sydney is about two hours. Bus and rail service is available to either Brisbane or Cairns and between Proserpine and Airlie Beach.
A beautiful paradise not to be missed.
